The Great Barn

As much as I like admiring luxury mansion houses, traditional castles, cute cottages, chilled out beach houses and modern apartments, my absolute ideal property type would be a converted barn/steading. I love the old stone walls, the exposed wooden roof beams, the wooden flooring and the usually large spacious rooms that give you plenty of room to express your own ideas and designs. I found this particular barn while browsing online and fell in love with the walls, the furniture, the use of space and the brightness of the rooms. This property, known as “The Great Barn” is located in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire. Here are a few images of this “Great Barn”. (Click on the images to enlarge).

Here is an overview of the property. As you can see it still has the appearance of a rustic barn.

As you can see in the two images below, the wooden roof beams are still visible and are, in my opinion a very prominent feature in the house.

Second Hallway

Here is the dining room. I especially love both the walls and roof in this room and the use of the wooden furniture completes the look.

Dining Room

This is the bathroom. This is one of my favourite rooms in the house. I particularly like the free-standing bath, the built-in shelving and again, the exposed wooden beams.

The living room is very bright and spacious and has a nice mixture of exposed stone walls and glass. If you look closely you can see the dining room, shown before, opens up into the living.

Living Room

The one thing about this beautiful property I wasn’t so sure about was the kitchen. Its most likely personal opinion, but I would have much preferred a traditional style kitchen, with wooden cupboards, possibly granite work tops, and less of a stainless steel look about it. Not to say this isn’t a nicely designed kitchen, I do like the layout and the pillars, although, I would have had the pillars match.

This is one of my favourite rooms in this house. I love how the roof slopes to the floor. I absolutely love the exposed beams on the sloping roof and the large window that overlooks the rest of the property and the garden.

I love the layout of this house, shown here at night.
